What’s The Process?

What’s The Process?

Hey Cincinnati!

Happy Friday to everyone! What a great day to answer another question that so many of the people we talk to want to know:

What’s The Process??

Well, glad you asked! This is a document we developed to answer just that. Anyone who is good at their job knows that if you have a process and repeat it often things only get better. This is just a peek at one of our processes that we would share with you during an in home consultation.

Thanks for stopping by, make it a great weekend Cincinnati!

Expecting a Deck?

Good morning Cincinnati!

Today seems like a great time to talk a bit about the average time lines on decks.

If your planning on rebuilding an existing average size deck with new decking, rails, and we will recommend making structural and code updates. You should plan on 1 – 2 weeks for that, but if your thinking about a new deck from scratch, most can be completed in 2-4 weeks.

Keep logistics and purpose in mind. Decks require alot of consideration as they are usually built on the back of a home and may not always have easy access. We have worked on decks that offered stunning views of the city, but the terrain was so steep the we had to build a full set of scaffolding just to get to the location. Purpose built decks that will serve as a foundation for a roof covering, or decks designed to carry the load of outdoor kitchens, and/or hot tubs will require more time for piering and building a more robust frame.

Thanks for taking a look! Get out there this awesome Friday and make somebody else’s day!

It worked so well…

As many of you know, Chase and I filmed a TV commercial with Spectrum nearly a year ago now. The ad worked so well that Spectrum asked us to make several testimonial commercials to promote their business. We got a fun call yesterday from Rochester New York. Apparently, they are using our video (sans phone number!) to promote their business in that market. A very nice New York lady took the time to look up our company and call us to see if we would renovate her bathroom. The deal was a bust of course after considering the daily commute, but is was a terrific conversation!

A Grateful Independence Day!

Hey Cincinnati!

It’s that time again!  Time to celebrate our independence, our country and all of the great people in it.

We’d like to take a moment and thank all of those people who have stood up and sacrificed to make this county great.

One of the things I love about our company is that when you talk about this country (despite our imperfections) every person in our crew responds strongly with a grateful heart about what this county means to them.

We look forward to the 4th of July for many reasons, Chase plans an amazing fireworks display to share with friends and family.  Eric Ooten, one of our carpenters on staff, uses his talent in photography to share with the rest of us how he sees the world (his amazing photo above).  I enjoy all the above, but July is special to me for one more reason.

In a prayerful tailgate meeting that is now 10 years in the past, Chase, Andrew (our first ever employee), and I decided to that it was time for me to leave full time employment.   That was a scary move in general.  I was trading security in a good job with benefits for a shot at a dream, during an economic downturn.  Through God’s grace and blessing, amazing people and lots of late nights and early mornings the dream came through.

So I’d like to give a special thank you to all who paved the way for this company to run down a dream!

An award…for us?!

Chase and I have been very blessed to win a few awards over the years. It’s always nice to feel like your efforts have an impact. We’d like to share the article with you, thanks for reading Cincinnati!

Not Your Average General Contracting Company

We wanted to learn more about this two-time award winner and how they managed to build such an impressive online reputation, so we took a few minutes to talk with Ryan Biehl, the owner of Biehl Brothers Contracting, LLC.

The first thing we wanted to know was what makes Biehl Brothers Contracting, LLC a one-of-a-kind general contracting company in Ohio. Here’s what Ryan had to say:

“We are a family business that wants to create a good family atmosphere. You become family. You’re in someone’s house. We have a great relationship with our employees opposed to working with subcontractors.”

We also asked Ryan what their mission is at Biehl Brothers Contracting, LLC and how they work to make the world a better place. Ryan told us that people don’t want to go anywhere else because they see that he and his team want to service them.”

Building Success by Creating Fans

Ryan attributes Biehl Brothers Contracting, LLC’s strong online reputation to their commitment to working hard to create raving fans of the business and doing the job so well that people won’t want to go anywhere else.

Outside of building a powerful online reputation, Biehl Brothers Contracting, LLC has gotten their name out there through trade shows, direct mail, local publications, word-of-mouth referrals and by posting blogs with videos.

Every business owner wants to build the kind of online reputation Biehl Brothers Contracting, LLC has. When we asked Ryan what advice he has for those business owners, he said:

“Focus on not moving on until the job is complete. Go above and beyond with each job. Give them the whole experience. You can complete the circle. …Serve them well, and treat them the best you possibly can.”

Congratulations to the team at Biehl Brothers Contracting, LLC for being a 2019 Top Rated Local award winner, and thank you so much, Ryan, for taking the time to speak with us!

Go Away!

Hello Cincinnati!
This is the season where many of us want to get away from it all for a bit. We joke around here at Biehl Brothers HQ, that sometimes getting away and doing nothing is EVERYTHING you need it to be! We hope that you remember to take some time out this season to stop and enjoy life a little.
We are already halfway into summer, so don’t wait!

Custom VS Direct Replacement Remodeling Part III

Welcome back Cincinnati, for our final installment

Now let’s talk about the custom remodeling option. I not a motorcycle guy, but I’m pretty sure that amazing machine you see above didn’t start off on any manufacturer’s assembly line. Custom remodeling is just that, your project is a “one off”. That means we need to dig a bit deeper. Typically, a custom renovation (if we are still talking about kitchens here), means that we may be removing walls, cutting new and/or bigger opening for doors and windows. When those types of alterations are in the scope it almost always calls for relocation of plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems in addition to work in adjacent spaces. We quite often see custom kitchen renovations affecting the entire level they are located on, so it’s gone way beyond a kitchen renovation at that point.
We hope that whatever you’re considering, you’ll give us a call. We’d be honored to serve you!

Custom VS Direct Replacement Remodeling Part II

Welcome back Cincinnati! So which type of renovation is best for you? There are exceptions to every rule but you probably guessed, direct replacement is where you are going to get the most bang for your buck. A kitchen renovation is one of the best examples of this. If your kitchen has a great layout, but just looks dated, you would simply remove all of the old cabinetry and fixtures and install new in the exact same place with little or no modifications to the mechanical systems of the home. This makes for a stunning new look and minimizes both the labor cost on the project, and the time to complete. There are exceptions to every rule, but this type of renovation typically makes the most sense to those of you reading this that may be in your home a limited number of years.

Let’s talk about the exception for a moment. Every now and then, when a house has a poor layout, feels dark, or closed in; going beyond direct replacement may benefit you upon the sale of your home. Chances are that if you feel that way, so will prospective buyers. Sometimes, by adding more space, opening up the floor plan, or getting in more natural light may very well add value to your home above what your home is currently worth, making it a great opportunity. We’d always suggest talking this over with your Realtor first. Stay tuned for part III!

Custom VS Direct Replacement Remodeling Part I

We talk with so many people a year and something that often drives the scope of a renovation is the value of the home in conjunction with how long people expect to stay in the home.

Typically, this puts most of our clients in one of two camps.  The first are those folks that don’t intend on staying in the home more than 5-10 years. Typically in this situation, it makes good sense to keep a sharp eye on your equity position so you get the most bang for your buck when it’s time to sell.  Sometimes that comes in the form of making a little money on what you chose to invest in the home, and for many it means that the home will sell faster than what’s around it.

The second groups are those who plan on staying a lifetime.  Our grandma used to say “Honey, I’m never moving again, and so I’m making it what I want!”  (We quote her all the time and still miss her).  So, for those of you those share our grandma’s sentiment, go crazy!

These posts only hold 1500 words, so stay tuned for advice on which type of renovation is best for you!

Something to Consider…

When hiring a contractor, you want the job to go as smoothly as possible and you certainly don’t want anyone to get hurt.  We all know accidents happen, ask any contractor you interview for your project if they have a safety program in place.
