We have said it before in this blog, you just never know when, where, or how inspiration will strike.  I just hung up the phone after a terrific (and oh too short) conversation with a friend in the industry and boy did it take me back…about 15 years to be exact!

I think we have all heard the song, Lean on Me by Bill Withers.  I’ll go on record to say that most of us likely feel that way, BUT did you know that it’s just as important in business?  About 15 years ago, as our business started to grow, Chase and I realized that we just needed help.  We had begun to build a reputation and work was finally finding us!  On top of that, we had begun to expand by hiring.  What this often led to was not enough time in the day and a visit to Stress City!

One of our friends in our referral network, Chad Coe, who worked for another contractor nonetheless, recognized this and reached out to his boss, Joe Harkleroad owner of Brentwood Builders.  Joe has a passion for mentoring.  It didn’t take but a quick call and Joe had agreed to be our mentor for the price of lunch!  This was an answer to prayer and we saw an immediate dip in the billing from our therapists!

On our first meeting, we visited the office of Brentwood Builders and it was nearly overwhelming.  It was a beautiful building, which in itself seemed unachievable, but they shared with us that they had a process for handling all of their clients’ information, and it was the stuff of our wildest dreams that would soon become our inspiration!  After visiting the office, we had lunch with Joe and he encouraged us and shared ideas with us that would help us to detailed and well organized for our clients and our new employees.

Whenever we had a question, or needed a meeting to figure something out, Joe was there giving his time.  Last year, we even had the privilege of having him to our own office to thank him and give him the grand tour of our campus.

The only way I think this story get better is if that kindness is carried on.  Chase and I are happy to report that we are volunteering at Conduit, and paying forward to other business owners all that has been done for us and we are so excited for the opportunity.

In parting today, Remember what Bill Withers has to say and lean on someone else,  that often means you need to ASK for help!  You may never know the blessings you can cheat someone out of if you won’t ask for help and give another person the joy of helping you!
